SEAT’s Striking All Electric CUPRA, the EL-BORN

The new CUPRA el-Born looks like it’s picked straight out of a sci-fi film. Under the near-reptilian skin, it’s a VW ID.3. It uses the same MEB platform with a 77kWh battery and a 150kW motor offering an apparent 0-31 mph time of 2.9 seconds. Since it uses VW’s platform, it still charges a full 161 miles of range in 30 minutes, with 125kW charging, and a total range of 310 miles quoted based on the WLTP cycle. It’s actually even being manufactured in the same Zwickau plant alongside the ID.3.

The interior is, in essence, an Alcantara lined ID.3 too. It has the central, driver focused infotainment display and the relatively small instrument cluster display too. It does have a very nice look, with bucket seats for a more aggressive feel. I hope there are a few more tweaks to the el-Born making it drive as well as it looks.

Seat, and it’s sub-brand CUPRA, seem very set on making EVs, as their Vice-President and CUPRA CEO Wayne Griffiths stated: “CUPRA el-Born displays all the genes of the CUPRA brand and we have taken the original concept to the next level creating a new sporty and dynamic design and reengineering the technological content. CUPRA el-Born is the living proof that performance and electrification are a great match.”

If you are interested in a CUPRA el-Born, they will launch in 2021. Personally, I’m quite exited to see more about this and it’s driving experience.
