Hyundai already have a car named the “IONIQ”, it’s their Prius rival, but now they are taking it a step further. Much like SEAT’s “CUPRA” brand, Hyundai is splitting “IONIQ” to be a full EV only brand. To start, they are offering 3 models, the 5, 6 and 7. Apparently, even numbers will be used for sedans, and odd numbers for SUVs meaning 2 SUVs at launch and 1 sedan.

IONIQ Concepts

The early images they’ve released show a very sleek two door coupe, alongside a mid sized crossover style SUV, and what only can be described as a tank. They’ve got a very futuristic look, it’ll be interesting to see how much of the styling is retained in the retail versions. Of course, LED headlights, with the large SUV having a full width lightbar too.

IONIC 6 Concept

The coupe has a very Tesla looking front end, and a Porsche 911 look to the rear. No wing mirrors which seems to be becoming the standard, in place of rather interesting bubbles which i assume house cameras displayed inside. Wheels are also unique, with a 6 spoke propeller style that definitely aid the premium aesthetic.

The crossover SUV also has a striking look. You’d struggle to not stand out with one of these. There is no word on when these will be available for us to buy, but since they want to “become the world’s third-largest automaker of eco-friendly vehicles by 2025, with 560,000 BEV sales”, they will need to start selling them soon to mean that goal. VAG group have similarly striking designs, but they should be available a lot sooner.

I have a passion for cars, driving, working on them and talking about them. Anything fast or electric, is fair game. Own an Audi S4 B8.5 & an SV650S.
